Chicken soup for the mover's soul?

I talked to the manager of our apartment complex in Mississippi today. Everything is ready for us, so we just need to let her know a few days in advance of our arrival date. I can not tell you what a relief it is to have a place waiting for us. When we moved to Midland we had a place waiting, but it was only 2 1/2 hours from where we lived in Detroit. This place is 14+ hours from us... not exactly commuting distance.

When we moved to Detroit we spent a chunk of time in a hotel because we didn't have a place waiting. Not fun, believe me.

Anyway - the manager said that they didn't get much more than some rain and a bunch of evacuees from Gustav, but are keeping a close watch on Ike.

I am getting sick. I wonder if that is why I felt so unmotivated today? I have started the Zicam/vitamin C/Advil (sore throat) routine that usually gets me over these things in mere minutes... hopefully it works. I don't want to have to miss my grandma's party this weekend.

Marty is off tomorrow and I was really hoping to get a lot done. Not sure if that is going to happen. I really want to be packed before we leave on Thursday, so I suppose it has to.

On the school side of things, we are going to be so behind this year.

I know, I know. Behind who? Who says?

I would imagine that it will be at least the middle of October before we can start anything, so I am stressing a little. Someone smack me, please.

I am lying in bed typing on this stupid laptop, and have had to fix more typos than the usual high number, so I am going to bed.

Krista,
One of the things we did with the kids when we moved to FL was spend a chunk of time at the beginning learning about the State history. You might be able to go online and get some things from the State's visitors bureau and have it mailed to your new address. Try to get to the library during the first week and have the boys take out a bunch of books about MS and the area you are in. It helped my kids adapt to their new home and feel that this was home. It will count as school, but they might be more excited to do it without much help from you. Just an idea! Hey, we'll only be 10 hours from each other! You may become my new evacuation place! Have a great move, try not to stress (yea, right)

I love that idea! I wish we had explored and learned about Michigan more than we did. We thought this was a temporary stop, so we never spent much time on it. Eight years later, we are still here.

Come on over! We are always up for a visit!

Repeat after me: "One of the beautiful things about homeschooling is being able to DO LIFE when you need to!" The boys will be fine. And I love Melissa's idea. (Hi, Melissa!)
